Writing is not relegated to English class.  Students in almost every subject area benefit from processing and sharing their learning in writing. Unfortunately, the majority of the writing students do takes place outside of class in the form of homework. Yet, there is significant value in shifting the writing process into the classroom, where teachers can guide the experience and provide support. In a classroom setting, teachers provide explicit instruction on writing techniques and strategies, such as brainstorming, prewriting, and revising. They can also give students individualized feedback on their writing, helping them to identify areas for improvement and encouraging them to take ownership of their learning. Additionally, the classroom provides a supportive and collaborative environment for students to share their writing with their peers and receive feedback from classmates. This workshop will combine UDL principles and blended learning strategies to help teachers move writing into the classroom, ensuring students feel supported as they write and submit authentic writing.
